Almeria is a city with a wide range of transport connections that highlight its port, which communicates primarily with other ports in Africa, and its airport.
Transport
Port of Almeria
The site of the current port was once an anchorage used by Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans from Antiquity.
Commercially, it provides regular transport connections to: Melilla (through Acciona-Trasmediterránea), Nador (in Morocco, through Acciona-Trasmediterránea, Ferrimaroc, Comanav and Comarit), Oran (in Algeria, through Acciona-Trasmediterránea) and Ghazaouet (in Algeria , through Acciona-Trasmediterránea).
Air Transport
Created in 1968 to meet the demands of the tourist and film industry, the airport of Almeria is an important economic engine of the capital and the province. Located 8 km. to the east of the capital, it connects with it through the highway AL-12, and with the rest of the province through the A-7-E-15.
It provides national and international connections, mainly to Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Palma de Mallorca, Melilla, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Düsseldorf, Brussels and other cities of the European Union.
Among others, the following airlines operate out of the Almeria Airport: Ándalus Líneas Aéreas, Air Berlin, Air Nostrum-Iberia, Bmibaby, EasyJet, Transavia, Monarch Airlines, Ryanair, Jetairfly, Luxair, Thomas Cook and Jet2.com.
Railway and intercity buses
The old railway station, completed in 1893 and an example of the iron and glass architecture of the Gustave Eiffel school, was replaced in 2005 by the current Almeria Inter-modal Station. Managed by Adif and equipped with terminals for intercity buses and rail, it offers connections to all the municipalities of the province as well as the rest of Spain. It was the first inter-modal station of its kind in the country.
The train connects the city directly with Granada and Seville-Santa Justa (R598 Medium Distance trains) and with Madrid-Chamartín (long distance trains such as Talgo). Barcelona-Sants (Arco García Lorca) and other cities in Spain are accessible by transfer.
The intercity bus service connects Almeria with the rest of the towns in the province, other provinces in Spain (Granada, Jaén, Málaga, Seville, Madrid, Barcelona, etc.) and France (Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, etc.)
Road network
The road network connects Almeria with the Mediterranean arch and the coast and interior of Andalusia.
